Khatam tapi tak faham

Dr. Danial Zainal Abidin

Dr. Danial Zainal Abidin

On 7th September 2008, I went to Surau An-Nur Lebuh Nipah to listen to Kuliah Subuh by Dr. Danial Zainal Abidin. This is my first time meeting Dr. Danial in person. He’s one of the famous doctor in Penang. He has his own clinic, Klinik Syifa at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Gelugor, Penang.

That’s a quick introduction. What I want to share here is the meaning of reciting or reading Quran in this holy month.

I used to recite Quran one juz (20 pages) daily in order to finish 30 juzu’ in 30 days. I still remember during my secondary school where I manage to khatam Quran once every Ramadhan. However, after entering UIA Gombak, I don’t read Quran as much as I did in the school days. Life’s in UIA is hectic and at times I don’t have time to khatam for the last 3 years.

However, after listening to DD’s talk about finishing Quran in 30 days, without understanding the meaning and issues, I’m totally agree with him.

What’s the purpose of reading the whole Quran when you don’t understand its meaning? He asked us again. Which one is better? The one who manage to finish Quran without understand it or the one who manage to read half of Quran but get the translation and the content?

Credits to Huda for giving me handy Quran and its translation. Reading Quran has never been so much enlightening. Its better to recite, read and understand the content rather than finishing without gaining anything, this refers to the old Adlan few years back.

P/S – remember the race of the hare and turtle? and which one is better? Quality or Quantity?
