AKHI Project had organised AKHI Ibadah Camp from 23rd to 25th May 2008. The program was held at SHAS mosque and Admin classrooms. There were 42 participants from SK Setapak Indah and 26 participants from SK Bandar Baru Sentul. The objective of the program is to teach the kids about reading and reciting Quran.

Since I don’t take any subject in short semester, I didn’t come for the preparation meetings. That is why I was shocked when I was told to teach them to read Quran. Its not a big deal because I can read and understand the tajwid. Its just that I need to have the mind set of teaching them. I thought that I’ll have to conduct modules related to fardhu ain etc.

By the way, I really like the objective. This is because AKHI has never organise ibadah camp with the objective to expose and encourage the kids to read Quran. This is the first time. AKHI has been focusing on English and Math subjects in the mentoring. That’s why during this camp, some of the form 1 students are in the first level. We have three levels and the first level is for beginner.

Luckily, I was appointed as a facilitator in a level 3 group. My expectation is that all of them can recite Quran fluently. I conduct the Tilawah session with the boys while Sis. Syarah was the facilitator for the girls. The boys in my group were Syahidan, Ashabal Khairi, Daniel Iskandar, Khairul Akmal, Adam Shah and Mohd Shah. While the girls were Rodhiah, Auni Afifah, Afiqah Othman and Suhaila.

On the first day, we conducted a pre-test to evaluate their performance in reciting Quran. Since its just Surah from the Juz Amma, some of them manage to read it. Eventually, they are not reading it but they already memorize it. That’s why one of my boys couldn’t read Quran as fluent as the rest. Its pretty sad to see that they cannot read Quran even they are already in form 1. Its all because of their environment where their parents don’t really care about it.

In the end of the day, I’m glad that I have teach them something. I know I’m gonna miss them because the next program will be on July. Here is some pictures during the tilawah sessions. Since I’m not good in teaching all of them at one time, Bro. Ikhwan came to the rescue. Really appreciate that.
