Haraqa won Silver Medal at ITEX 2009

Salam. Alhamdulillah because my wheelchair design, Haraqa won a Silver Medal at ITEX 2009. After few months of hardwork doing research and design, I’m happy because I’ve been rewarded another achievement. My first time was the Stepmovr, that I’ve won during IDEAS 08 in UTM.

IIUM as research university

During my three days in ITEX, I’ve started to understand what is the role of IIUM in becoming a research university.

Do you know that the 100% components of RESEARCH UNIVERSITY’S RANKING CRITERIA in Malaysia are as follows;

Quality & Quantity of Researcher – 25%
Quality & Quantity of Research – 30%
Quality & Quantity of Postgraduates -15%
Research Innovation – 10%
Professional Services & Gifts – 7%
Networking & Linkages – 8%
Support Facilities – 5%

However, I really hope that the university will give full support especially on finance and incentives for the researcher. I believe that this may give some motivation for the lecturers and students to work on a research project. Please don’t be too stingy or saving!

In one of the blog that I’ve read, the university has sent many lecturers to continue their studies in Master programmes. That’s why there are lack of lecturers in various faculties and department especially in AAD. The same goes to my beloved lecturer, Khul Zaman who will be pursuing his master program soon.

Well, finally I’ve understood why this happen. Its all because for the sake of becoming a research university. On the other hand, they can get salary increment too. However, with great power (academic) comes great responsibility. They will surely have to repay their new qualification with great research for the university. IIUM still has a long way to go and I’m wishing all the best for it!

Till then, thanks for reading this entry. I’m sorry because I’ve wrote a lot about my university lately.
