Cicakman 2: Planet Hitam Review

I planned to watch this movie on the first screening day but since I have induction course of Taaruf Week, I watched it after everything is over. So, here’s my personal review of the sequel.
New costume
I like the new costume. It looks better in chilli red and I believe that its also lightweight compared to the old one.
Custom made Naza Bike
Its the first time I’ve seen a Naza Blade 250R with a custom design for a Malaysian movie. But, it was just a cosmetic. I still fancy Batman Tumbler Bike design. View original bike here.
Better fighting choreography
I like the actions during Rrama scenes. Good choreography too. I know most of the action was done by the stuntmen. Its easier because both Cicakman and Rrama wear mask. But the Ginger Twin Ghost relies solely on the flame effects.
Hollywood style CGI
Well done Yusry for the good CGI quality. Most of the time, I hardly tell which one is CGI or real image. I know that the tank is a CGI but the rendering is so superb. However, I don’t like the motion blur effects during the motorbike chasing scene. It should have become like Die Hard 4.0 highway chase style.
Lack of promotion
Compared to the first movie, there was a hype as they advertise the trailers on TV weeks before the screening. Promotion is important but they should have more creative marketing strategies. By the way, they have done a good job on the official website which was established months ahead.
Poor heroic character
I don’t think that a superhero should have the humour and funny elements. It simply downgrade the character himself. A superhero also should be good at making decision. I hate it when he’s trying to catch the thief but he waits for the traffic light to turns green. WTH. He simply can climb the wall and jump across the road. I know when it comes Saiful Apek, it should be funny movie. But when he’s wearing the mask, he should have been a bit serious. Superhero is not supposed to be a laughing stock.
Believing in fortune telling?
In the movie, Hairi went to a fortune teller. I pretty don’t like the idea because Muslim are not supposed to believe in what the fortune teller or Feng Shui masters tell us. Its an easy way for becoming Syirik. Since the movie is rated for general viewing, parents should teach their kids saying no to fortune telling.
Suggestion for the next sequel
I pretty like the idea of The Dark Knight movie. If there’s a sequel of this movie, I hope it can be DARKER and HEAVIER movie where the villains is super cruel and intelligent. Good plot is the main thing, but actions and CGI will be the added value for a movie. With the establishment of the new studio in Cyberjaya, I hope KRU Studio will become successful in the future. I never met KRU eventhough I used to pass Wisma KRU near Setiawangsa.
P/S – I wonder if Pepaya can come up with a movie soon.

There’s other good local movies. Don’t watch it unless you want to see how good the CGI is. Simply the narrative is poor.

Actually, aku mmg xheran sgt ngan citer cicakman ni (other than the CGI), sbb cam bengong. Konon2 nak tiru spiderman bagai. Termakan cicak la, than, superhero yg klakar la (Spiderman kan mcm x serius gak..).
Hmm, berdasarkan Cicakman 1, bnda aku paling benci ialah, Prof Klon. Gelak si Aznil tu sangat2 annoying. Sikit gelak sudah la. Hush!

The review in Utusan conclude the same thing too. Graphic mmg best, but the story is disappointing
yep. i do think someone should become the director while Yusry can focus on the art direction and animation. hope he’ll improve on the storytelling for the next movie. I hope Duyung will not be disappointing

malaysia perlukan director muda yg kreatif, mcm cerita histeria tu, bagus,
sbb tu malaysian patut support indie film director, bukan pengarah yg x bertauliah syok sndiri dgn gambar film mcm tahun 80an cerita hongkong.
