If the World’s Biggest Dome is Located in Makkah
11 TweetSalam. I just watched National Geographic documentary series, ‘Big, Bigger, Biggest‘ about the development of dome in the architecture world. I really enjoy the documentary where cool 3D visualization and animation helps me to understand the whole thing.
To date, the biggest structure with the dome concept in the world is the Oita Stadium in Japan. So, after I’m doing some comparison on Google Map, I guess if somebody wants to beat the record, perhaps Masjidil Haram can be the best place for the next biggest dome.

Here’s an illustration and visualisation to show how big the dome can be if it is possible.

Lot of research need to be done for this purpose. But for this mega project, and the most complicated job is to ensure the safety of the people underneath the dome. This is mainly because Muslim will be in Masjidil Haram 24/7 to perform prayers throughout the year!
Please note that this proposal has nothing to do with the Makkah expansion plan. It just another Sketchup and Photoshop work done by me.

I can’t deny that the projection is nice but for me.. I guess it’s better to put nothing between Kaabah and sky =)
thanks for your feedback. there’s lack of consideration while I’m doing such visualization. 1 thing for sure, it can control the heat around the mataf or tawaf area, because my parents told me its kinda hot during a really hot and sunny day over there. hope to experienced Makkah soon!
Alhamdulillah I’d been there for 2-3 times so somehow I could imagine how it’ll be.
You can see interesting moment when it’s raining (for me it’s interesting) and the cool air feeling doing tawaf at night. For day it’s surely hot but in some sense I guess it’s not suitable to provide too much ‘comfort’ as the temperature has its own meaning for us =)
I’m just giving opinion based on my experience. If you’re going to deal with the local people and etc., it’ll be a different case.
