What I am expecting from Google Malaysia

Salam. Google has finally landed in Malaysia. Google Malaysia has a new office in Petronas Twin Tower, Kuala Lumpur. So what am I expecting from them?

1. Better and accurate English – Malay Translation

They already have Google Translate service in Malay back in 2009. However, they are not quite accurate or sounds funny. I hope that Google can get better translation when working with local programmers and translators.

2. Google Street View in Malaysia

They have captured the street in US, Europe and other parts of the world. This time, Google Street View car should hit the street in Malaysia and capture random shots for Google Maps. I wonder whether Proton or Perodua can become Google Street View car after this.

3. Updated Maps even at the most remote area

Google Maps is a bit outdated compared to Bing Maps. For instance, take a look at the DUKE Highway. They missed about 2.5 kilometers between Jalan Kuching and Sentul. Even at remote areas in villages and kampongs, I don’t expect to see pixelated maps after this.

4. Inspiring and Creative Office Interiors

This should be a good opportunity for interior design firms in Malaysia to design for Google office. I’ve always been awed by the creative and enjoyable office layout and furniture in Google office in other parts of the world. Perhaps our local designers can put some traditional motives, batik or songket element into the new Google office.

5. More Malaysian Themed Doodles

Google Doodles on their homepage is based on historical event of a particular date. Well, Malaysia also have lots of important dates. Let’s see how Google is going to design Malaysian themed Doodles such as Hari Raya, Hari Malaysia and many more.
