The reason why I changed this theme is because I’m bored with the current theme. I’ve been using Binafsha 2.0 for more than one year. Anyway that’s not the main issue.

Actually I had the time to work on this new theme since I got two weeks of Eid break.

In this latest version of Binafsha theme, there are a few major features that I’ve implemented. Let’s go one by one.

1. Responsive layout

This is the trend in web design as far as I’m concerned. More people are using smartphones and tablets to surf the web. So I need to make sure they can view my website beautifully in different screen resolutions.

This is how it looks like in an iPhone. You can also try to resize your browser to see the magic of the responsive layout.

2. Threaded comments

In the previous theme, to be honest, I forgot to design the threaded comment section. The framework that I used did not come with a threaded comment function. Now I’m using the Starkers framework and it comes with threaded comments which is cool.

3. jQuery and more CSS3 stuff

I always fancy applying some animation and fancy typography on my clients’ website. So this is my chance to play around with the current trend. In this theme, there are only 5 images. Other effects are achieved by CSS2 and CSS3 alone. Try hovering your mouse on the logo to see the effect!

4. Magazine style layout

I’ve designed the home page to be very simple with a magazine style layout. However the entry page is still the same. The reason is because I believe most of my traffic come from search engines. If you noticed, most ads are placed on the entry page, making the home page less cluttered to achieve simplicity.

So, what is product library management? In essence, it is nothing more than product data management, only the product data is categorized and mapped into basically a usable virtual library.

This catalog library maps the products, matching them into specific categories and pairing them with their proper manufacturers. By doing this, the website can be designed to help the consumer find similar products that fall under the same category or same manufacturer.

Managing the product data allows content writers to use search engine optimization (SEO) to better market the product. Moreover, since the product data includes the product prices, by having them all entered into a database, price comparisons can be made available to consumers. By allowing consumers to compare similar products on your site, they are more likely to buy from that site, because they will feel they had the chance to make an informed decision.

For your marketing, use product library management service providers that have proven themselves leaders in online catalog processing. Product data management is an inescapable part of providing online catalogs to your customers. Some business people will still try to tackle these jobs on their own, and while some will do a quasi-good job at it, the majority will have simply wasted valuable time and money.

For Twitter users, you can simply update your status about certain products and services, give a poor review, feedback and complain in 140 characters. You can include the hash (#) tag if you want to.

Some local companies (whether they have Twitter account or not) will be able to track down your complaint instantly by using the Twitter Search. I’ve tried it myself and its quite useful. But it requires few keyword and search string/operators to get more accurate search. For instance, people who works for Telekom Malaysia and they want to find what customers think about Streamyx service. Just go to Twitter Search and type ‘streamyx’. You can also search from the sidebar of your Twitter’s page and save the search.

Because of this reason, Twitter makes profit by selling the searches to Google and Microsoft. Previously, people rely on Google and bloggers rely on high pagerank to get this done. Well, Twitter breaks the rule. You don’t need to have many followers to get in the cloud. You just have to update your status! This is the main thing Facebook doesn’t have.

The scenario might changed in the future, who knows.

Here is a collage, which have made my wonderful and colourful 2009.

In 2009, I only write 86 entries (less 14 than my target) and the most viewed entry of all time – ‘DUKE Highway Route Map on Google Maps‘. Its not easy to do compilations because it takes time yet I will always go for quality than quantity.

2009 Resolution

Let’s recap my 2009 resolution. I guess I have achieved most of them.

1. Graduate successfully with flying colours this semester. Alhamdulillah, I even received Best Student Award
2. Produce a good degree project, from sketches to the prototype. Alhamdulillah, I manage to get an A plus an ITEX award too.
3. Get a job within 3 months of graduation. Alhamdulillah, I got my first job just after my official graduation.
4. Save and invest at least RM20K for the future. Er.. unfortunately I only can save half of that amount.
5. Contribute and share more with the society (time, energy and money). Taaruf Week and KASUKABE, does it count?

Anyway, I would like to thanks to all readers, visitors and not to forget for all commenter. You guys motivated me to write more and InsyaAllah, 2010 will mark another milestone for my writing style plus tougher resolution. I’ll share my 2010 resolution next year. Just stay tuned.

Twitter

Some people call it as microblog. It is where you update your status within 140 characters. You can follow anyone that you like. Twitter has integrated a lot of features such as TwitterFeed and platform such as Twitterfox and TweetDeck. Many programmers has developed Twitter related platform, widgets and plugins.

Plurk

Plurk serve the same function as Twitter. However, it has horizontal scrolling. Plurk uses Karma system which means each time you plurk, you can get a Karma points. This make Plurk addictive for some people. Plurk can display the thumbnail of image or videos unlike Twitter. However, Plurk doesn’t have API. This is why the development of Plurk is quite slow unlike Twitter.

Plugins and Widget

There are lots of widgets to show the updates in Twitter. These are the free flash widgets provided by Twitter from their website. Widgetbox also offer flash widget to show your Twitter updates. However, if you use Plurk, there are only two ways to show your updates. Either you are using the standard Plurk widget, or grab the RSS feed.

Personally, sometimes the widget design should blend with the whole template. Twitter has an advantage at this point because people can customize its look. Plurk only allows colour changes for the mean time

Why I’m leaving Plurk?

First of all, the Karma system makes it addictive. Next, I don’t like reading Plurk, HORIZONTALLY because it doesn’t feel right for me. Third, the replies is merely chatting between Plurkers. Fourth, the number of unread message really annoys me and I’ll simply ‘Mark all as read’. Fifth, Twitter bird is cuter than Plurk monster. (Just kidding)

Facebook Status Update is going public

It looks like Facebook will become the next real multimedia Twitter and Plurk. Well, I still use both because I’m using Twitter Application for Facebook. It allows Twitter to update my Facebook status too.

TweetDeck

This is another useful software developed using Adobe Air platform. In the latest version, it allows the user to update their Facebook status too. I’m still figuring out this cool thing.

What I Twit?

Usually I simply update about what I’m doing. Its the basic question that may lead to milllion of answer. But I’ll write on specific thing that happen on that occasion which may not happen everyday. Well, you have the power to decide on what you write. Besides that I’ll also share few interesting links in my updates too.

Salam. As you can see, I’ve just uploaded my brand new theme. I call it as Binafsha Theme, which means purple in Uzbek.

Basically, its a two column theme. I’ve chosen this style because I want to put more things on the sidebar. Besides that, I’ve also has shown entire post. For a longer post, you can click ‘Read more’ to view the rest.

Content Slider

The unique cool thing about this theme is the Sliding Content on top part of the blog. You can click on the category tabs, which is Blog, Personal, Design and Event. Twitter tab is for my twitter updates and Malay tab is two latest entry from my Malay blog, Warna Kehidupan.

More white space and justified content

I was influenced by the printing media. The same goes for a blog design. It should have plenty of white space for the reader. This time, I used justify align to make the paragraph aligned, just like when you see in the magazine.

Problems

Yes, there are some problems because the theme is 90% ready and I just can’t wait to release it to see how its gonna look on the web. Finally, I’ve spotted some error when using IE7. I will fix it later.

Alhamdulillah. After I’ve got my payment, I’m looking forward to buy a good notebook. Lenovo S10 was my first choice. There are plenty of second hand Lenovo notebook on Mudah website but there are a few of Asus EeePC. I guess,maybe people are selling back their Lenovo because they don’t satisfied with the performance.

After I asked my friend on Facebook, they also told me to go for Asus. Thanks to Taqie and Feairus. However there are few Asus notebook in the market. Why I’m choosing this one?

Battery power!

Other notebook can last up to 3-5 hours. However, 1000HE can last up to 9.5 hours depend on setting and usage. Well that’s more than enough. If I’m travelling with bus or train, this notebook is the best companion!

Price

In Lelong website, the price was RM1499. When I went to Lowyat Plaza last Saturday, some shops sell it up to RM1699! So I bought the one with the lowest price and I got some free gifts such as headphone, cooler, lock and USB router.

What’s the purpose of having second machine?

Yes, I still have my desktop in my room. But I believe that a freelance designer should be able to do his work anytime and anywhere. Its hard when I have to present my work to the client, and I have to depend on their computers. Maybe this notebook also can build my reputation and trust for my client.

Since the notebook is not that powerful compared to my dual core desktop, I will be using this notebook for website design and my internet activities. Wifi facilities is provided everywhere today. I’ll also do some light graphic design works using Photoshop and Illustrator. For 3D rendering and video editing works, I’ll have to do it with my desktop.

P/S – Love the design of 1000HE. Well done Asus designers!
