Eclipse in Malaysia

This entry has nothing to do with the Heroes series. I was supposed to write this entry during the lunar eclipse last week. By the way, this entry is about eclipse sightings, the next eclipse in Kuala Lumpur as well as the eclipse prayer.

My First Total Solar Eclipse – Saturday, 22nd August 1998

It happen 10 days before my UPSR exam. I went to school for an extra class on Saturday. About 11am, while sitting in the class, some students rush to the end of the corridor on the 4th floor. For the first time in my life, its one of the unique and special phenomenon. At that time, it was a total solar eclipse. My friend told me to look at the sun behind the KODAK negative film.

After that, I’ve couldn’t recall any exciting eclipse events in my life. And ten years later, among the noted eclipse..

• Total Solar Eclipse – Monday, 1st August 2008
  But its not in Malaysia. It in China. I bet you must remembered about the Olympics Beijing.
• Partial Solar Eclipe – Monday, 26th January 2009
  It was the on the Chinese New Year celebration.
• Penumbral Lunar Eclipse – 9th February 2009
  It was a Thaipusam celebration and a massive annual congestion can be experienced at MRR2.
• Partial Solar Eclipse – 27 January 623
  According to the Sirah of Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h., during his son Ibrahim died, there was a solar eclipse.

Eclipse prayer

I wonder why there’s no Eclipse (Kusuf) prayer in my place? What’s the pre-requisites for the Kusuf prayer? Should it be done when the moon or sun is in the full stage? If there’s no visible eclipse can be seen in the area, is it still necessary?

It was a rare Sunnah and I’ve missed it all the time. I hope I won’t missed the next eclipse prayers. Its a good thing when you are staying inside the campus because you can get updated with this thing easily. Check out about the eclipse prayer in UIA last semester here.
