I was told by Bro. Faisal from Centre for Built Environment (CBE) that IIUM requires all the website that competes for the IIUM Website Competition, have a standard IIUM logo. The existing one is not the correct logo. Logo has become an issue right now. I’ve checked Centre Professional Development (CPD) for the correct IIUM logo.
The logo on the left is the wrong one. The correct one is on the right. See the difference? The outer shape was thicker and the shape is a bit rounded.
This is another version that has the kufic calligraphy.
So, its not a big deal anymore if you want a high quality of IIUM logo. You can check out this link.

The reason I’m posting about this is because logo is very important as a corporate identity as well as branding. Last semester, I heard about the copyright of the logo. There was an issue where an organisation in Pakistan (not really sure where) was using the same logo for their organisation (or institution). My friend, Analia told me about this. This is because IIUM logo didn’t have any Trademark (TM) or Copyright (C) on it. I wonder what’s happen with that case.
By the way, if you are looking for a free vector logo resource, especially for the organisations and institutions in Malaysia, you can check out Vectorism.
Vector vs Bitmap
I’ve discussed about the vector vs. bitmap few years ago. Let me tell you the difference between them. Bitmap logo eventually will break or pixelated when you are enlarging them for large printing purposes such as printing banners or buntings. Vector is a composition of lines and colors that create a certain artwork such as logos. Vector logo will never break or pixelated no matter how big you resize them or no matter how big the banner you want to print. Vector also is widely use for sticker printing as well as for signage industry.
Vectorism is a compilation of a vector artworks especially logos, flags, organisations, institutions and many more. That guy is really helpful and I can say that he’s a humanitarian. He is giving vector logo for free! Some of the visitors also requested certain logo to be vectorized.
The next thing is that I wanna share with you on how I relate Islamic teaching when becoming a designer. Islam teaches its believers to give or to contribute rather than to ask, to request or to beg from others. Life will become more meaningful if you give and donate your property or effort to others. Among the IIUM ‘celebrity’, Saifulislam.com mention the motto ‘erti hidup pada memberi’. It really open up my mind that I want to give more with what I have. When you are giving something for someone, you’ll make their life easier.
Now back to the logo design issue. Its just the same when you are doing any graphic design, blog design and share it to the whole world. What is so good about keeping it by yourself? Sharing is caring. Then world will become a better place.
InsyaAllah, I’ll be producing more stuff and share some of my design especially the wordpress themes. I’m still working on it. Feel free to check my portfolio from time to time.
