My first job as Multimedia Designer

Salam. Getting a first job is not easy. Alhamdulillah with some help from Jobstreet.com, I manage to choose and apply for my first job. I have sent more than 30 application through Jobstreet and few more through email. After going for some interviews, I have decided not to wait any longer, and I accepted to work as a Multimedia Designer in Dana Intelek Sdn. Bhd, an advertising company in Dataran Mentari, Bandar Sunway. I’ve started to work the day after I’ve done my clearance.

Advertising Industry

Before this, I never know how big and interesting advertising industry is. Some of the related jobs in advertising are art director, broadcasting, client servicing, content writer, copy writer, graphic designer, media planning and even a web designer. According to Geekinterview.com website, I can understand other related jobs and careers in this industry. But I guess I want to go for art direction and GUI Visualizer.

So, what am I doing?

As a multimedia designer, I have to provide multimedia content for the company especially for the screen. Basically, the screen here refer to the giant LED screen near the street. I bet you noticed about the TV displaying ads near Ampang Point or Maju Junction. In Kuala Lumpur, there are two companies that do outdoor screen advertising which are PowerScreen and DanaScreen. Industrial design to multimedia design?

Yes, I know I’m majoring in Industrial Design but there’s no harm in doing multimedia. After all, I have done lots of multimedia jobs than product design for the past four years in IIUM. There’s nothing wrong to do what we love and enjoy the most.

In today’s world, lots of successful people performed well in different field than their diploma or degree. So, the education background is not a big issue as long as you have passion in what you do. Even if I’m majoring in Conservation Design, I will keep on doing multimedia stuff.

I guess that’s all that I can share for the introduction. This is just the beginning for something bigger. I hope that all of my graduated friends can become successful in their field.
