Write, Print and Bind a Design Thesis

Salam. Writing a thesis is not an easy job. Thesis can reflect the author, especially on how he or she does the research and also how do they communicate with the readers. Basically thesis is a benchmark of one’s intellectuality.

Alright. Enough of the formal introduction. I don’t want to write much about my thesis. I’ve mentioned it before in my WK blog. Briefly, let me share the process of making a design thesis.

Acknowledgment

Praise be to Allah, because of His willing and permission, I am able to finally finish my Design Thesis on the topic ‘A Study on Wheelchair Design for Hajj and Umrah Purposes’.

First of all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my supervisor for his guidance and advice that enabled me to complete the final submission of my project. I would also like to thank my beloved lecturer and studio master for his concern. Not to forget, thank you very much to all lecturers from Department of Applied Arts and Design for their moral support and concern.

My highly appreciation and thanks to all interviewees for their cooperation to share their information and experience. To my beloved parents, thank you for your continuous support and sacrifice you have made for me and to all my family members, I love you all.

Last but not least, thank you very much to all my beloved friends and course mates for the support.

That’s what was written inside the thesis. I was inspired by Atiqah Nasir because she also shared her acknowledgment page inside her blog too! I just want to add few more things.

Special thanks to my dearest myss for helping me with proof reading and grammar correction. I know I’m not very good in english. I’m sorry because I don’t ask her to check on my final edited version. I need to rush for printing and bind all of them together.

Printing the thesis

Thesis is one of the most expensive written assignment a student have to do. Printing three or four copies alone will cost a lot! Especially when there are coloured pages. I want my thesis to look good and that’s why I have to invest to get all of the images in full colour. Hey, its my last assignment anyway. Save the best for the last right?

Hard cover binding

This is another issue that makes thesis an expensive assignment. It is because of the hard cover binding. There are differences of prices based on the urgency. If you want it ready within hours, it will cost you more. The price ranges from RM10 to RM30. Most of the stationeries in my university will send the thesis to Serdang. I wonder why Serdang is popular with hard cover binding besides having are lots of institutions.

Overall cost
Black and white pages – RM 23
Coloured pages – RM 50
Hard cover bind – RM 48
Total = RM 121

Okay. That’s it. The stupid thing is that, I also print the black and white pages for another two copies. I should have photostated them. Such a waste!

With the submission of my thesis, I just have to wait for the final grade before I’ve can get the ‘Graduated’ status from the university.
