My 10 Most Visited Mosques (and Surau)

Salam. Mosque or masjid is a worship place of Islam. While surau is the smaller version of mosque. Every Muslim are encourage to perform congregational prayers at mosque. For the past three years, I’ve been coming to these mosque few times. Let’s see which is my most visited most, begin with the number 10.

10. Surau An-Nur Lebuh Nipah, Pulau Pinang
During my internship in Penang, this is the closest surau which is located 500 meters from BJ Complex. I will always miss the friendly qariah over there.

9. Masjid Al-Malik Khalid, USM, Pulau Pinang

During my internship in Penang in 2008, I frequently visit this mosque for Friday prayers and some Tarawikh prayers too. Credit picture.

8. Masjid Sobirin, AU5 Keramat
This mosque is located in a neighborhood area of Taman Keramat AU5. Sometimes I pass this area while I’m running errands between home and Melawati.

7. Masjid Al-Akram, Dato’ Keramat

This mosque is located in Kg. Dato Keramat, about 500 meters from Dato Keramat LRT station. There’s a good dining place, Gelas Besar and Nasi Ayam stall opposite the mosque. Credit photo to KL Guide

6. Masjid Al-Husna, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya

I come to this mosque for Friday prayers since I’m working near Sunway for the past six months. Located opposite of the lion/sphinx statue of Sunway Pyramid.

5. Surau An-Naim, Seksyen 5, Wangsa Maju

I have been following Ustaz Hasrizal since last year and he used to conduct monthly kuliah maghrib in this surau. Check their blog here.

4. Masjid Al-Muttaqin, Wangsa Melawati
This mosque is located strategically near MRR2 at the Wangsa Melawati exit, behind the Petronas station. I will pass this mosque everytime I go to IIUM. It also has sekolah agama.

3. Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque, IIUM

This is my favourite mosque during my study in IIUM. Eventhough there are musolla/surau in most faculties, I prefer to perform my prayer here because of its unique experience. It has good example of natural ventilation. Credit photo archiprezmosis

2. Masjid Muadz Bin Jabal, Setiawangsa

Strategically located near Keramat Permai business centre and Setiawangsa LRT, this mosque has sekolah rendah agama and a hall at the basement. It is the second closest mosque to my house. I use to come here once a week. The mosque was repainted last year from cool colors into earth colors scheme. Check the website here.

1. Masjid Al-Ansar, Taman Keramat

It is located in Taman Keramat AU2 and it is the closest mosque to my house. I’ve been here since I was a small kid and lot of memorable experience, such as playing Tamiya cars during Tarawikh, dragging my bicycle home (because I’ve lost the key) and participating as Qurban committee.

Well, each mosque has its own identity, qariah and unique experience. Whenever I travel to a new place, I’ll make sure to perform prayer in the local mosque before I continue my journey. This is not a tagging entry, but you are also encourage to share your most visited mosque in your blog.

P/S – wish to visit Masjidil Haram in near future!
